The Fault in Our Stars writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber have been tapped to write the X-Men film spinoff The New Mutants.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project reunites the duo with New Mutants director Josh Boone, who also helmed The Fault in Our Stars. The X-Men spinoff will have a "YA vibe to it," according to producer Simon Kinberg, so the choice of Neustadter and Weber, with their young adult experience, would fit with that vision for the film.
As teased by Boone earlier this year, the group of young X-Men will likely feature Wolfsbane, Mirage, Cannonball, Sunspot, Magik, and Warlock. Anya Taylor-Joy, who is rumored to play Magik, recently shared her enthusiasm with IGN about the in-development film.
"I think the world is really fascinating," she said. "I'd love to be a part of it. It would be wonderful."
While no casting announcements have been made, the film is also rumored to star Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane and X-Men: Apocalypse's Alexandra Shipp as Storm. New Mutants is expected to start filming in early 2017.
