The Witcher 3 and DLC Expansion Reviews

Requiem for a white wolf.

With the Game of the Year Edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt now out, it seems like a good idea to remind folks who didn't already know what we know: The Witcher 3 is freaking amazing. Not only is the base game a beautifully layered, open-world Action-RPG, but its two sizeable expansions are also cut of similarly high-quality cloth.

In case you missed them, here are our reviews for all three, and our Game of the Year video for The Witcher 3, just in case you were on the fence about diving head-long into Geralt's supple, manly bosom.

The Witcher 3 Was IGN's 2015 Game of the Year

We gave The Witcher 3 our highest honor last year, and we certainly weren't the only ones.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Got feedback on our player?
We want to hear it.

Feel free to read our full review of The Witcher 3, but this is the gist of what we thought:

"Though the straightforward and fetch-quest-heavy main story overstays its welcome, the option of joyfully adventuring through a rich, expansive open world was always there for me when I’d start to burn out. Even if the plot isn’t terribly interesting, the many characters who play a part in it are, and along with the excellent combat and RPG gameplay, they elevate The Witcher 3 to a plane few other RPGs inhabit."

The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone

Our full review for Hearts of Stone is right here. Here's the short version though:

"The story in Hearts of Stone alone would make it worth getting, but it succeeds on other levels as well. The fun new enemies and bosses, along with the customization potential of Runewords make Hearts of Stone a very well-rounded package that shouldn’t be skipped."

The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine

You'll want to check out our full review of Blood and Wine, but in short:

"Blood and Wine ends the saga of Geralt of Rivia in style, bringing with it a tale of charming vampires and troublesome friendship set in a stunning new landscape that departs from the bleakness we've known until now. The expansion also brings some welcome gameplay enhancements, including mutations, the ability to dye armor, and a vineyard for growing herbs. Most of all, it leaves Geralt in a good place."

One quick parting note: as we reported earlier this month, console owners who are looking to transfer their saves from the standard edition of The Witcher 3 to the Game of the Year edition will not be able to, though PC players will be just fine in that regard. That said, if you haven't played Witcher 3 yet, go do that. Like, now!
