Life is growing more difficult for Peter Parker as the march towards The Clone Conspiracy continues.
Warning: this article contains spoilers for The Amazing Spider-Man #17!
As you can see from the cover above, Amazing Spider-Man #17 marks the debut of the new, female Electro. This issue saw the Jackal attempt to recruit Max Dillon into his growing army of supervillain minions. As incentive, Jackal resurrected Francine, a woman whom Electro accidentally killed when his powers raged out of control. But when Jackal tried to restore Electro's powers, he accidentally empowered Francine instead. Thus, the new Electro was born.
To add injury to insult, Francine literally kissed Max to death in an attempt to gain more power. Turnabout is fair play, we suppose.
The old Electro wasn't the only famous Spider-Man character to die in this issue. The former Prowler, Hobie Brown, was tasked by Spidey to infiltrate Jackal's new U headquarters and uncover the company's secrets. He found plenty more than he bargained for, but Hobie wasn't able to escape before meeting the wrath of the all-new Electro.
The good news is that Hobie was quickly resurrected by jackal.. The bad news is that he's now a pawn for this decades-old Spider-Man villain. That's just one more hurdle for Peter Parker to overcome as the series builds towards the Clone Conspiracy crossover this fall.
