Mass Effect Novel Series Connects Original Trilogy to Andromeda

The first novel will launch in August.

A new series of Mass Effect novels published by Titan Books will serve as a link between the original Mass Effect trilogy and the upcoming Mass Effect: Andromeda.

The canonical novels will function as prequel and sequels to the in-game events, "and will become part of the overarching Mass Effect saga," Titan Books wrote in its Fiction Rights Guide. Each book will focus on key characters, "answering the many questions fans have been asking."

The first book—Mass Effect: Andromeda Initiation, written by fantasy author N.K. Jemisin—is due out in August 2016. The next three books are slated for release in March 2017, September 2017, and March 2018.

Novels two and three have yet to find authors. The fourth title will be written by Mass Effect creative director Mac Walters.

Mass Effect: Andromeda will be released in Q1 2017. During E3, Walters told IGN Mass Effect: Andromeda would take place "hundreds of years" after Mass Effect 3—and important choices made in Mass Effect 3 wouldn't impact the new game's players.

New details on Mass Effect: Andromeda are expected to be released this fall.
