Midnighter and Apollo Are Back for DC Rebirth

The Wildstorm torch still burns in DC Rebirth.

Wildstorm fans can take heart, as DC has revealed these characters will still have a part to play in DC Rebirth. Former teammates and on-again, off-again lovers Midnighter and Apollo will star in a new mini-series this fall.

Midnighter & Apollo is a six-issue mini-series that will see writer Steve Orlando pick up where he left off with the recent Midnighter solo series. He'll be joined by artist Fernando Blanco, with ACO providing covers for the series.

Both characters featured prominently in DC's New 52 Stormwatch series, but Apollo kept a low profile after Midnighter branched out into his solo comic and the two took a break from their tumultuous romantic relationship. This new series will allow Orlando to explore that relationship in greater depth while also taking the duo on a tour of the DCU and pitting them against subway pirates and demons.

“Midnighter and Apollo have spent time apart—figuring out who they were when defined on their own instead of by their relationship,“ said Orlando in DC's press release. “They have a firmer idea of who they are and they've become stronger and more confident together. Midnighter and Apollo are back to remind the world that it truly is a bad time to be bastards. This is the World's Finest Couple—kicking back and making each other better than they are on their own.”

6 Burning DC Rebirth Questions We Have So Far

Midnighter & Apollo is the first new title to be added to the DC Rebirth lineup following the initial wave of new books. This announcement also seems to confirm that the Wildstorm characters are still a part of the larger DCU after the events of DC Universe Rebirth #1. With any luck, this series will pave the way for a larger role for Stormwatch or the Authority again.

Midnighter & Apollo #1 will hit stores on October 5.
