HBO has confirmed, either accidentally or otherwise, who Jon Snow's father is. The finale of Season 6, Winds of Winter, revealed his mother is actually Lyanna Stark, but an infographic on the Making Game of Thrones blog has more information for us.
Not only did Rhaegar Targaryen abduct Lyanna Stark, he also apparently impregnated her, and Jon Snow is their offspring. This finally confirms the "R+L=J" theory which has been circulating for many years.
The clues have been there in the show and the books all along, but this is the first time it's been confirmed in any official capacity. This new information could have massive implications for the final two seasons of Game of Thrones, with the fight for the Iron Throne hotting up.
The infographic also shows how all the main players in the Game of Thrones universe intertwine, with links including who they married, who they're allied with, and who they killed.
