Following rumors that Caliban might show up in Logan, director James Mangold has confirmed that the mutant character will indeed be in the third Wolverine film.
Mangold took to Twitter to share the first photo of the mutant, played by Stephen Merchant (The Office). It is a closeup of his face, bald and pale, against a black background.

Caliban first made an appearance in 1981 in Uncanny X-Men #148. His primary mutant ability is tracking and sensing other mutants. The character had a small role in this year’s X-Men: Apocalypse, portrayed by Tómas Lemarquis, in which he was an underground broker who offered transportation for mutants.
Merchant also shared a photo of himself from the film on Instagram, with the caption "How I spent my summer":

A recent photo shared by Hugh Jackman, which features graffiti on the set saying "Where are all the mutants?", might give a hint at Caliban’s significance in Logan. Mangold has also revealed the film’s storyboards, the main villain, and Professor X’s state of being.
Logan will be released on March 3, 2017.
