Deadpool Director Executive Producing Sonic Movie

Jeff Fowler to direct.

After departing Fox's upcoming Deadpool sequel, Tim Miller has signed on to executive produce Sony Pictures' live-action/CG-animated hybrid Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miller is making the film at Blur Studio in collaboration with Jeff Fowler, with the video game-inspired adaptation serving as Fowler's first directorial project.

"Jeff is an incredible director with strong story instincts," Miller said of Fowler. "The world of Sonic presents the perfect opportunity for him to leverage his experience in animation to bring new dimension to this iconic character."

SEGA's popular video game franchise centers around a blue hedgehog named Sonic and his anthropomorphic pals Tails and Knuckles, as they seek to thwart the evil efforts of Doctor Robotnik.

Golan the Insatiable creators Patrick Casey and Josh Miller are writing the script for the family-oriented film. Fast and the Furious' Neal H. Moritz is on board to produce the movie, which is scheduled for release in 2018.
