Nintendo's Mysterious 3DS Game Is Coming to Japan in 2016

This new holiday 3DS game remains a mystery.

Nintendo has a new game coming out in Japan this holiday called Miitopia, and the Japanese video game maker hasn’t spilled many details explaining what this new game is.

Miitopia was first announced at the close of a Japanese Nintendo Direct presentation back in  September. And the message was simple: Miitopia is a new holiday game coming to Nintendo 3DS. It will be sold as a retail game and as a digital download on the 3DS eShop. No other specifics were offered at the time.

Over 55 days later, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima reminded investors the game was coming during a financial results meeting in Japan yesterday. “Miitopia, for which we have only announced the title, will be released by the end of this year,” Kimishima told a room of investors, “and we will provide more information about this exciting title at a later date.”

So what is Miitopia? Based off the logo, the obvious point to make is it involves Mii characters. The logo shows fantasy elements in the form a a sword and a hat that looks like it belongs to a wizard. We don't know what to make of the Mii character with the horns. Find Mii, a StreetPass game available on 3DS, uses similar elements. But is this an action game? Is it another RPG? Is it a simulation genre game? We just don’t know.

During yesterday’s investor meeting, Nintendo apologized for Pokemon Go Plus shortages. The company also announced that Super Mario Run would be releasing in 150 countries in December on iOS.
