The Flash's Candice Patton Talks Crossovers

The Flash star on Season 3.

Arrow recently celebrated reaching its 100th episode with a big event in Vancouver, attended by cast members not only from Arrow but from the other DC TV shows that have since spun off from that series – starting with The Flash.

At the event, I spoke to The Flash’s Candice Patton being a part of the CW’s DC universe, and the big upcoming crossover between all the series, along with Iris and Barry’s current status, as the long time “Will they?/Won’t they?” dynamic has finally evolved into what actually seems to be the most stable, optimistic situation yet for the two.

IGN: Is it crazy to be part of this ever-growing universe?

Candice Patton: Absolutely. It's a testament to what DC TV has been able to do on The CW. It gives us hope as Flash cast members that in a couple years maybe we'll be here doing the same thing. I don't know that any of us imagined that it could be this big going into four different shows, so I am really lucky to be a part of this. I'm excited that hopefully I'll be here for [The Flash's] 100th episode.

IGN: I think there's going to be 100 episodes!

Patton: I hope so!

IGN: There's this huge, mega-crossover coming. Iris hasn't been a big part of previous crossovers. What about this time?

Patton: I'm afraid this season she is not crossing over. I know, I know! I'm always advocating for it, but there's a lot of characters across four shows. It's got to make sense, and I guess this year it didn't make sense. She's very much involved in the crossover that happens in The Flash, we just don't see her crossover to Legends, Supergirl or Arrow.

IGN: But we do get to see her meet some of the characters from the other shows?

Patton: Absolutely. Yeah, all of the fan favorites Iris gets to meet. It's really cool. Even getting to see Supergirl/Kara fly for the first time doing those stunts. It's... I geek out as well, because we don't have that on our show. Grant [Gustin] just kind of zips in and zips out. Using a harness to fly up is cool for us!

IGN: Barry and Iris seem to actually be having a happy relationship right now!

Patton: I think it's fair to say that if there's any superhero that could have a healthy, normal relationship, it's Barry Allen. One thing about Barry is his relationships and his family is really important to him. It's what makes him a superhero. Yes, I think we can expect to see a very healthy, normal relationship with Barry and Iris this season.

IGN: Is that fun for you guys?

Patton: Yeah, I think it's just been a long time coming. I think we've all kind of known that Barry and Iris were destined to be together, it just had to come at the right time. It's more of a relief to get to play those iconic moments with Barry and Iris.

IGN: Wally meanwhile had to deal with some speedster jealously issues. What's Iris' point of view on all of that?

Patton: I think Iris is always going to worried for Wally jumping into anything head first. He loves speed, he's a little hot headed and he's a little reckless. She's worried about him. Barry is different. He's a little more controlled and thoughtful with the things that he does. And Wally's just kind of doing whatever he wants whenever he wants to do it. I think she's worried for him, but she wants to support him always.

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8:00pm ET/PT on the CW.
