Pokemon Sun and Moon Are Nintendo's Most Pre-Ordered Games, Ever

Looks like pre-orders are blasting off again.

According to a Nintendo press release, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are now the most pre-ordered games in the company's history. Meanwhile, the game's 3DS demo has been downloaded over 3.5 million times.

No figures were given for exactly how much the games have been pre-ordered, but Nintendo included some favourable-looking charts in Tatsumi Kimishima's presentation to investors yesterday (below). Nintendo also notes that the demo is now officially “the most downloaded demo on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.” Not bad for a week’s work, eh?

Pre-orders!

Pre-orders!

The importance of Sun & Moon performing on 3DS is obvious. In Nintendo’s most-recent financial report and software sales, the Pokémon franchise leads the pack. To date, Pokémon X & Y have sold a combined 15.64 million copies, making it the most popular game on 3DS. Conversely, Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire is the console’s third highest-grossing game at 13.18 million pieces sold.

To give you an idea of the potential install base, as of June this year the 3DS has shifted some 60 million units worldwide.

Pokémon Sun & Moon are released on November 18 in Europe and November 23 in the US. Or Christmas if you’ve got a wife and two kids who’re adamant you can’t play it until we all have copies. Ah.

If you haven’t checked out the starter Pokémon’s final evolutions yet, you really should. Preferably before Owliver Queen tells you how you’ve failed this city island.
