TWD: How Ezekiel's Introduction Compares to the Comics

All hail the ruler of the Kingdom.

Full spoilers for The Walking Dead's latest episode, "The Well," and for the comics continue below.

Welcome to the court of King Ezekiel, ruler of the Kingdom! It was with much pomp and circumstance that viewers -- and Carol -- were introduced to the, ahem, flamboyant leader of the horseback-riding warriors seen in the back half of Season 6.

Though the context and characters differed in several big, notable ways, the show actually did a fairly accurate job introducing Ezekiel the same way he was introduced in the comics. Click through the below gallery by using the arrows to see how Ezekiel's introduction in the TV show compares to Robert Kirkman's comics.

It didn't take long in "The Well" for Ezekiel the zookeeper to take off the mask of King Ezekiel and come clean to Carol about who he is and why he put on the act at the Kingdom for its residents. (The unveiling of the real Ezekiel happened much quicker than it did in the comics, where it took several issues for his backstory to be revealed.)

Interestingly, Ezekiel's introduction in Issue #108 came long after Glenn's death (Issue #100) and after Rick & co. had already regrouped with Jesus. His zookeeper backstory came out in Issue #110, and he actually confessed it to Michonne, not to Carol (who by then was long dead). That certainly implies that Carol might take on the role of Michonne in Ezekiel's story going forward, which definitely was being hinted at the end of "The Well."
