Divided We Stand Will Explore Civil War II Fallout

Two Thors, two Hawkeyes, and one Slapstick

All through Comic-Con, Marvel has been touting big changes for its comic universe following Civil War II. Today's Divided We Stand panel was no different, as Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso was joined by writers Jason Aaron, Reilly Brown, Ryan North, Humberto Ramos, David Walker, and Jim Zub to discuss what lies ahead for Marvel's heroes.

First up was Jason Aaron and his two Thor comics. Jane Foster's Mighty Thor dives into Divided We Stand starting with issue #15, which Aaron described as "Lord of the Rings vs. Star Wars." That grabbed the attention of everyone in the room, because when Jason Aaron says something like that you just know the story is going to be completely, wonderfully bonkers.

Aaron will also be teaming up with Olivier Coipel for The Unworthy Thor #1, which follows Odinson's quest to prove himself worthy to wield the hammer once more. With the Ultimate Thor's hammer finding its way to Earth at the end of Secret Wars, Thor sees his opportunity for redemption. The Unworthy Thor #1 comes out in October.

Up next was Champions, written by Mark Waid with art by Humberto Ramos. This book was described by Axel Alonso as:

"The flagship comic of Divided We Stand"

The Champions team will be made up of Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Nova, Hulk (Amadeus Cho), Viv Vision, and young Cyclops.

On the opposite end of the hero spectrum will be Occupy Avengers. Clint Barton has had a huge role in Civil War II so far, and once that event finishes up he will hit the road with a mystery team of unpowered Avengers. Writer David Walker describes the book as Hawkeye's quest for "personal redemption", with the Avenger and his team getting into "A-Team sorts of missions."

There will also be a new ongoing Hawkeye series centering around Kate Bishop.

Finally, on a lighter note, Divided We Stand will see the release of Slapstick #1 by Reilly Brown. The character has seen a recent surge in popularity thanks to his appearance in Deadpool & Mercs for Money, but that team may no longer be together following Civil War II. Marvel's answer to Roger Rabbit will strike out on his own in a book Brown describes as:

"For anyone who finds Deadpool too high-brow...we're bringing the Looney Tunes sensibility to this one. When you drop an anvil on someone in a cartoon, it's funny. When you do it in real life, horrible things happen. That's the type of juxtaposition we want to explore with this book."
