Black Panther: Lupita Nyong’o Reveals Story, Villain Details

Two foes join forces.

Plot details for Marvel’s 2018 Black Panther film may be scant right now but actress Lupita Nyong’o did let a little info loose at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend.

Nyong’o confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that her character, Nakia, is a member of the Black Panther’s elite squad of female bodyguards, the Dora Milaje. It was also hinted that her relationship with the Dora Milaje leader, Okoye (played by Danai Gurira), may be complicated.

Nyong’o also discussed a few more details during Marvel’s own live broadcast.

“The story is that the Black Panther’s leadership is being threatened by two foes that come together, so Black Panther gets the help of the CIA and the Dora Milaje to try and defeat the enemy,” said Nyong’o. “Oh dear. Someone’s gonna fire me shortly. I have to shut up now.”

It seems likely that partnering with the CIA will bring T’Challa alongside Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross (a Black Panther ally who was one of several new MCU characters introduced in Captain America: Civil War).

In terms of the foes, one is regular Black Panther nemesis Erik Killmonger (played by Michael B. Jordan, who was in attendance at SDCC). The other remains unconfirmed, although it’s probable Andy Serkis’ Ulysses Klaw is the candidate considering his ties to Wakanda and his previous appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman in the title role and directed by Ryan Coogler (Creed), is set to arrive in February 2018.
