Major Star Wars Character Will Not Be in Rogue One

Don't expect to see one rumored character later this year.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to explore a period shortly before the original Star Wars took place — but fans hoping to see one major character from the franchise in the film will be disappointed according to Rogue One's director and producer.

Spoilers for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story follow. Turn back if you do not want to know who will not be in the film.

When Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was confirmed to be going into production again for reshoots, some reports suggested that the extra shooting time would allow the recently cast young Han Solo, Alden Ehrenreich, to appear in the film. Rogue One's director and producer, however, have confirmed the Millennium Falcon pilot won't be in the upcoming movie.

Speaking with Extra, Rogue One director Gareth Edwards said, "I’m not sure if I’m allowed to do this, but I think I should. I can put to bed, Han Solo is not in the movie."

Kathleen Kennedy was also asked by Extra whether Han would be in the film and said "No, I can also confirm that" the character will not appear in the upcoming movie.

A recent report by The New York Daily News suggests that Ehrenreich has been signed to appear in at least three films as Han, however it seems Rogue One will not be one according to Edwards and Kennedy.

Kennedy has previously confirmed that James Earl Jones will return to voice Darth Vader in the film.

A new character in the film was recently revealed during San Diego Comic-Con, while a new poster, behind-the-scenes look, and more about the film was discussed at this year's Star Wars Celebration. For all the big updates about the galaxy far, far away, check out IGN's roundup of Celebration.
