Ubisoft Details Third Expansion for Rainbow Six Siege

Operation Skull Rain goes live August 2.

A third expansion, Operation Skull Rain, is coming to Rainbow Six Siege on August 2, 2016.

For those with the Season Pass, you'll have seven days' exclusivity to access two new characters, Caveira and Capitão, from Brazil’s Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais (BOPE). Caveira's strength lies in stealthy surveillance, while Capitão wields a crossbow that shoots bolts that asphyxiate opponents.

All players will be able to access a new map set in a Brazillian favela, which Ubisoft states is "Rainbow Six Siege’s most destructible map to date".

Ubisoft has also confirmed other tweaks to the gameplay. A new Tactical Realism custom mode inhibits your HUD and removes enemy marking, allowing only the timer, compass, gadget, and weapon panels to be visible in the HUD, pushing players to "rely even more on their teammates and communication for information on enemy locations and kill counts".

There's also a new surrender mechanic for ranked games (but you can only do so before the third round), and a new angled grip to improve hip-fire to scope-sight/ADS transition.

This is the third expansion to hit Rainbow Six Siege. Rainbow Six Siege update Operation Dust Line released in May, while Operation Black Ice DLC came out last February.

Last month, developer Ubisoft updated the code of conduct to allow for permanent bans for players found cheating and has implemented a new system to detect cheating in Tom Clancy's The Division, too.

Rainbow Six Siege is available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. In IGN's Rainbow Six Siege review, we gave it 7.9, stating: "Despite the barbed wire and reinforced walls that Rainbow Six Siege makes you walk through in order to get to the meat of the gameplay, I can’t stop thinking about how much fun that gameplay is. I’ve already made new online friends with like-minded players who embrace Siege’s team-centric mechanics.

"It’s more cerebral than the twitch-and-react shooters of the day like Call of Duty and Halo – which doesn’t make Siege better or worse, but it does make it refreshingly different."
