Lady Layton Trademark Filed With EU

Searching for clues.

We've known for some time there's a new Professor Layton game in the works from Level-5, and a new filing with the European Union Intellectual Property Office is pointing to a new direction for the series.

In late June, a new Layton game was teased by Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino. Hino hinted the main character wouldn't be Professor Layton this time, nor would it be Layton's son Alfendi. A photo from Famitsu showed sketches of a female character, but no more hints were given at the time.

Is this Lady Layton?

Is this Lady Layton?

The filing, which is for Lady Layton, seems to confirm the early sketches were for the lead character in the new game. The filing falls under the Classes 9 and 41 in the Nice Agreement for International Trademarks. Class 9 includes computer software, while Class 41 is for "education; providing of training; entertainment; sporting and cultural activities."

So it's a video game. And it looks like the lead character will be Lady Layton.

Past trademark filings which eventually came to fruition include Coca-Cola's re-registering of the Ecto-Cooler trademark, as well as the trademark for CD Projekt Red's stand-alone Gwent game.

The Level-5 Vision Event, during which more information about the next Layton game will be revealed, is scheduled to begin July 27.
