Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, an adaptation of Douglas Adams' novels, will debut on Oct. 22 on BBC America, it was revealed during the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel.
Executive produced by Max Landis and showrunner Robert Cooper, Dirk Gently stars Samuel Barnett as the titular detective, Elijah Wood as resistant assistant Todd.
During the panel, a first-look teaser was also released for the upcoming series, offering a tease of the show's first season, including Todd's insistence that he not become the Watson to Dirk's Sherlock in the course of their investigations.
The eight-episode season will focus around a single mystery — the murder of a millionaire — as Dirk and Todd encounter the supernatural and the bizarre during their investigation. The series was greenlit by BBC America earlier this year.
BBC originally aired a four-part adaptation of Dirk Gently that began in 2010.
