Overwatch got two new reveals during Gamescom last week. A new map called Eichenwalde was revealed, slated to launch in September. Eichenwalde is an Assault/Escort hybrid map set in a medieval German castle and the surrounding town, a rural countryside that was once the site of a deadly battle between the Omnics and the Crusaders.
Bastion, an Omnic present during the battle at Eichenwalde, was given more backstory in Blizzard’s latest animated short, called The Last Bastion. In the short, a dormant Bastion is shown reactivating in the middle of a forest after years of being shut off.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s zombie mode was officially unveiled at Gamescom. Called Zombies in Spaceland, the action co-op mode sees four aspiring actors sucked into a fictional director’s movie and transformed into ‘80s movie archetypes.
As the jock, the nerd, the valley girl, and the rapper, the four must fight off waves of zombies in a spacey, neon-laced amusement park.
A large, orange Half-Life 3 banner displayed prominently at Gamescom’s North Entrance, situated next to legitimate ads for games like Titanfall 2 and Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3, grabbed people’s attention at the start of the conference. The ad featured the title “Half-Life: 3” in large letters, and then, in much smaller lettering below that, “Redakteure, die es damals gespielt haben.” Translated into English, the sign reads, “Half-Life: 3 editors who played it back then.”
The joke is that Spieletipps and GIGA Games, the companies who pulled the ads, have three employees who once played the original Half-Life. Good joke, everyone. Thanks.
Suicide Squad members Harley Quinn and Deadshot are joining the roster of Injustice 2 fighters.
While Harley Quinn was playable in the first Injustice, Deadshot only made a few cameos. The two were announced in the Injustice 2 character reveal trailer above, joining previously revealed characters like Gorilla Grodd and Atrocitus.
There’s still a lot of mystery surrounding Resident Evil 7, especially after its puzzling demo released during this year’s E3. A short gameplay trailer debuted at Gamescom doesn’t tell us much more, but it does provide another glimpse into the new direction the Resident Evil series is taking.
This new video makes Resident Evil 7 seem more Outlast than the zombie survival horror we’re familiar with: framed like a camcorder video, first-person, and plenty of running and hiding from adversaries that don’t quite seem like products of the T-virus. But according to IGN’s very own Daniel Krupa, things may not be what they seem. Resident Evil 7 is keeping us in the dark on purpose, says Krupa.
The “self-contained episode” seen in the gameplay trailer is a found footage segment similar to the one in the E3 demo. After getting some hands-on time on his own, Krupa says the old-school Resident Evil influences are clear, especially in a “classic Resi puzzle” located near the end of the demo.
