Director Rian Johnson revealed the next chapter in the Star Wars film saga will begin right where Episode 7 left off, something never before seen in a Star Wars film.
If you don't remember, Episode 7 ends with Rey finally locating the legendary Luke Skywalker, with Rey offering Luke's own lightsaber to the self-exiled Jedi master.
The news came during the Future Filmmaker Panel during the closing hours of Star Wars Celebration 2016. A photo from Skellig Michael, the real-life location of Luke Skywalker's sanctuary in the final moments of Episode 7, was shown off.
Star Daisy Ridley talked about Skellig Michael and working with Mark Hamill back in February, but the exact transition from one film's ending to its sequel's opening was only now confirmed by Johnson.
The funeral for Han Solo, cut down by Kylo Ren in Episode 7, will not be featured in the upcoming movie. Han Solo's funeral takes place in the time period between Episode 7 and Episode 8.
