Australian developer Hipster Whale has announced its expansion into publishing, and appointment of former Film Victoria investment manager Clara Reeves as President.
The developer of the hugely successful mobile title Crossy Road, has announced its establishment of a mobile game publishing arm. The company hopes to partner with other mobile developers to produce projects that “put a twist on the conventional approaches to the market,” a sentiment that aligns with the non-exploitative approach it took with Crossy Road’s free-to-play model.
“We’re often approached by other developers asking for help with their titles, and we haven’t had the bandwidth to act,” said director Andy Sum via press release. “Now, with our publishing initiative, we have a platform for showcasing some truly great games.”
Alongside the publishing announcement, Hipster Whale also formalised its appointment of Clara Reeves to the position of company president. Reeves was previously the investment manager for the Games, Digital Content and Animation arm of Film Victoria, and has also worked in production and business development roles at Atari and Krome Studios.
According to Reeves, Hipster Whale still plans to work with partners like Bandai Namco and Disney. “Hipster Whale will continue to work on internal IP, she said in the release, “we’ll now also be looking to partner with great developers, helping them bring their creations to the widest audiences and find their own successes.”
