WWE: Sheamus on His Best of Seven Series with Cesaro

Which Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle game is Sheamus' favorite?

On Sunday, August 21st, at WWE SummerSlam, Sheamus and Cesaro will begin battling in a "Best of Seven" series to determine the superior warrior. But that's not all, the ultimate winner of the series will also get a shot at the new Universal Champion.

I had a chance to speak to Sheamus at the WWE 2K17 SummerSlam kickoff event in New York, where we spoke about his upcoming series with Cesaro, WWE 2K17, and his favorite old video games.

IGN: Talk to me about video games. What were you favorites growing up?

Sheamus: My favorites? Microprose Pro Soccer, Midnight Resistance on the Commodore 64, Sensible Soccer, Zool, Sonic. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game, WrestleFest arcade game, and Afterburner.

IGN: Now before you wrestled, you were in IT. Did video games get you into computers?

Sheamus: Nope. [laughs] I got into computers because I didn't know what I wanted to do. I was kind of lost. I went to Human Resources in college and I didn't know what I wanted to do for a while. My dad was in IT, he was a security expert, so he got me into IT.

IGN: What do you think of WWE 2K17 from what you've seen?

Sheamus: It's a credit to these 2K guys, they really work their asses off. They take a lot of pride in what they do, you know? They're not just going to turn out any crap. They want to make the best game ever and that's what they're doing when they keep listening to feedback from the fans. And the graphics and the gameplay are second to none. It gets better and better every year. I sound like a broken record saying that since I probably said the same thing last year, but it's the truth.

IGN: You're starting a "Best of Seven" series with Cesaro at SummerSlam. What are the similarities between you two and what are the differences?

Sheamus: We both kind of came from the same path. We both left our home country. We both sacrificed a lot to get here. We bring a tremendous tough European style with us. We love to fight. We're very ambitious. We're success-driven. But unlike me, Cesaro's never been World Heavyweight Champion. This "Best of Seven Series" has the two top athletes, the two top Superstars, in the WWE. I don't care what anyone says. As far as I'm concerned, there's nobody better than me. We're going to go at it with our physical style to prove who's the best and use each other as a stepping stone to get to the top of RAW and become the Universal Champion.

IGN: What's your mindset going into a series like this with someone you've faced many times already?

Sheamus: We're already very familiar with each other and our moves, but you definitely adapt as you go along. You'll always learn more about your opponent over the course of these matches. It's different watching their matches and then being in there with them where you know what to do and how to counter certain moves. Normally, I'd say "Oh, I'd better be careful for the first couple" but we're both gung-ho and we both want to get that first win. We both want to make the mark and set the tone for the series. For me, I want to win it and end it four to nothing. That's what I want. I don't want to go for seven matches, you know what I mean? [laughs]
