A new look at the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series showcases one of the film's characters at a crossroads — between worlds.
Tom Taylor, who is playing Jake Chambers in the 2017 film, debuted an image from the movie in which his character stands at a portal bridging his world, Earth, to presumably Mid-World, the home of protagonist Roland Deschain. Taylor included the caption, "Traveller, beyond lies Mid-World," with the photo.
Spoilers for The Dark Tower books follow.
In the third Dark Tower novel, Jake is brought into Mid-World via a portal in Brooklyn located in a mansion, which comes to life and attempts to stop Jake from crossing over.
The image above appears to be from the mansion as Jake prepares to make the leap between worlds. The set piece from the third book is confirmed to be in the film, but Stephen King and the team behind the film have revealed how the movie will differ greatly from the book series.
King has also previously spoken about how the film won't be a strict adaptation of the book series.
End of Spoilers.
Since the recent looks at the film, Sony has also released an app under the guise of the Sombra corporation, an entity in the series tied to the franchise's major villain, the Crimson King. The app scans photos, some of which the stars of the movie like Idris Elba have shared, and creates augmented reality depictions of specific imagery from the books.
Other websites have also popped up as well, offering clues about the film's story and references to the books.
The Dark Tower, directed by Nikolaj Ancel and starring Elba as Roland, Taylor as Jake, and Matthew McConaughey and Walter Padick, opens in theaters on February 17, 2017.
