Pokemon Go developer Niantic Labs has begun "taking action" against the game's cheaters, according to a new post on the company's website for the game. Those caught "taking unfair advantage of and abusing Pokemon Go" will have their accounts terminated.
There are many ways for players to cheat in Pokemon Go, and if Niantic's system determines a player has been using any of those methods, they'll receive an email stating that the account in question has been terminated.
"Our main priority with Pokemon Go is to provide a fair, fun, and legitimate game experience for all players," Niantic said in the blog post. So that means no desktop emulators, no automated bots, and no Pokemon trackers are allowed.
If an account has been incorrectly terminated, players will have the option to report a ban appeal in the Pokemon Go Help center.
Niantic has previously taken measures to ensure the game is being played as intended, including when reports popped up of legendary Pokemon, which have not officially been released in the game, appearing in certain players accounts. At the time, Niantic announced that it had revoked those legendaries from users' games.
And among the game's updates so far, Niantic has altered the game to prevent third-party apps like Pokemon tracking websites to be used in conjunction with the game. Among the game's most recent changes was the alteration of the "Nearby Pokemon" feature to include a new "Sightings" function.
