This Sunday, August 21st, AJ Styles heads into his first ever SummerSlam for a third, and possibly feud-ending, match with John Cena. Styles won their first showdown back at Money in the Bank. Then, at Battleground, Cena nailed the AA for the pin and win. Now we're down to a tie-breaker.
At the WWE 2K17 SummerSlam kickoff event in New York, I spoke to Styles -- a pretty notable gamer in his own right -- about his upcoming match with Cena, finally being a part of a WWE game, his favorite old school wrestling game, and who he still wants to face in WWE.

IGN: You're in your first ever WWE 2K game. What's that like?
AJ Styles: It's truly awesome. I love it. I've been waiting a long time for this to happen.
IGN: Have you seen your entrance?
Styles: I have and I don't want you guys to get mad that it's not perfect because, listen, when they were making the game, I just got here. So don't get hot, everybody. [laughs]
IGN: What were your favorite games growing up?
Styles: Ah, favorite games. Sometimes I wonder if they were just nostalgia. Like Super Mario Bros. 2 was one of my favorites. Double Dragon. Street Fighter 2. As I grew up, of course the systems did as well. I can pick at least one game from each system that I ever owned where I was like "Oh my god. Yes!" I'd literally get the system because of the game. I remember getting my Super Nintendo for Christmas and then, that same night, I finished Super Mario World. I'm a bit of an addict, if you can't tell.
IGN: Did you play wrestling games at all?
Styles: Well, I don't know if you remember but Nintendo Entertainment System had Pro Wrestling. Great game, man. The Amazon. I loved him.
IGN: He'd bite people's heads!
Styles: Yeah, he'd chomp on you. And then he'd do that cheat move. I don't know why, but I loved that guy. I also remember watching Starman do the dropkick backflip and thinking "Oh, you can never do that." Well, you can. [laughs] But that was one of my favorite games.
IGN: You're facing John Cena for a third time at SummerSlam. As a performer, when you go into a feud, do you hold things back in your first match if you think you're going to be facing someone over and over?
Styles: I do what the match requires. The first time we wrestled, we just wanted to make sure we put together a great match because that was the first time we'd ever been in the ring together. We didn't even know each other the well. But now, here at SummerSlam, we're not playing around. It's all or nothing with us. We got one gear. And so it's going to be an unbelievable match.
IGN: What's something that's surprised you about being in WWE that you didn't anticipate?
Styles: I just think how giving they are. I don't know if that's the right word to use, but this place wants to get you out there and wants to put you in the limelight so you can do well for yourself. And that's a huge positive for me. I want to do what's best for me. I don't think I deserve anything, but I will work hard to get there. Whatever it is, I'm going to work to get there and they have no problem giving me the opportunity to do that.
IGN: After eight months in the company, who are you looking forward to wrestling next?
Styles: Literally anybody I haven't been in the ring with, I want to be in the ring with. I want to go through the whole roster. I want to enjoy it. There are so many great performers and I love being a part of it.
