9 Mods that Improve No Man's Sky

This page contains information on PC Mods for No Man's Sky.

While much of the game is randomly generated as players progress, these mods can edit, improve or change certain aspects or systems in the PC version of the game.

No Man's Sky mods are primarily available from two sources - the No Man's Sky section of NexusMods or via NoMansSkyMods.com.

Most mods can be easily installed by dragging files into one of the folders in the game's data folder. This is located wherever you installed the game. For example, installing via Steam would give you the path:

C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/Common/No Man's Sky

Some mods require more intricate installation than others, so make sure to always follow the instructions, especially when editing or replacing game files. It's always a good idea to make a complete backup of your game files before attempting to install any mods.

This mod eliminates the lengthy button-hold time when performing most actions in game and when navigating menus.

This mod lets you disable certain audio warnings. These include NMS classics such as "Life Support Systems: Low," regardless of how full your LS device's battery may be.

Some players have complained that, despite setting the game to run at a certain resolution (ex. 1920x1080), NMS will occasionally render at lower resolutions. This mod forces the game to render at a specific resolution.

EditChromatic Aberration, Vignetting, and Scan Lines Removal

This mod eliminates the visible CRT-simulating scan lines that appear onscreen, as well as eliminates the shaded "vignetting" effect that is normally visible in the upper corners of the screen.

This mod eliminates the slight desaturization effect, for a crisper and slightly more colorful image.

Increases the effective range of a basic hyperdrive by 100x.

Replaces the default font with one from the new Star Trek franchise.

Replaces the "Units Received" audio byte with the classic catchprase of Dr. Sanchez.

F5 Toggle NoHUD

Toggles No HUD in the graphics settings with F5.

  • First you'll need NMSE installed. Tl;dr version of installing: Drag and drop the contents of the NMSEAlpha rar/zip into "...No Man's SkyBinaries". If you didn't understand that try to follow the guide here
  • After you've made sure you have installed NMSE correctly (your NMS directory should look something like this don't worry if you have more DLL's in their than that). Now just drag and drop the contents of NoHUD into that same directory and click yes to copy/replace (you basically just want the NoHUD.dll inside NMSE).
  • Finally to launch the game with the mods just run NMSELauncher instead of through steam or whichever you use (I recommend making a shortcut on your desktop).
