Prototype Nvidia Shield 2 Found in Pawn Shop

Canadian pawn shops prepare for a gamer invasion.

What appears to be a prototype version of the unreleased Nvidia Shield Portable 2 has apparently been discovered in a pawn shop in Canada.

As reported by PCGamer, in a post made on the Nvidia subreddit user "FwrigginRwootBeer" has posted images and specs of an item he picked up in a pawn shop that appears to reportedly be the Portable 2, with specs that appear to match Nvidia's plans for a follow-up to their original, 2013 handheld.

Is this the Nvidia Shield Portable 2?

Major features appear to be a better, brighter screen, more comfortable button layout and the addition of a front camera, along with general improvements to sturdiness and shut-down times.

FwrigginRwootBeer actually traded in his original Nvidia Shield under the assumption that this was a newer version that had been released without their realizing — their disappointment at realizing it's a developmental piece of hardware is presumably disappearing under dollar signs as the subreddit is quickly gathering pace with interested buyers.

The original Nvidia Shield launched in 2013 — we thought that it "[wasn't] enough to attract more than a small audience of early adopters" and it seems like we were right, as soon after Nvidia switched focus to tablets — but apparently not before at least starting development on a Portable successor.

There hasn't yet been any word from Nvidia on this discovery; if they make a comment we'll post an update.
