PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Temporarily Becomes Most Played Game On Steam

PUBG briefly takes the most concurrents crown on Steam.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, for a moment, had the most concurrent players of any game on Steam.

Both yesterday and earlier today, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds reached another milestone by beating Dota 2’s concurrent player count and becoming the most played game on Steam temporarily, according to Steam Charts. Each time, PUBG overtook the Valve title by about 30,000 concurrent players, though neither game reached their all-time records for most concurrent players ever.

The barely five-month old early access phenomenon just beat out one of Steam's most popular franchises after previously becoming the most-played non-Valve game on Steam, coming in second place to Dota 2.

This brief window of dominance was sadly followed by some server down time, but that didn't stop PUBG from overtaking Dota 2 again this morning. This achievement comes shortly after a tease of a new map by the series’ creator and the reveal that the game has passed the 8-million sale mark.

Check out the video below for our interview with the game's developers at Gamescom or have a read of our first proper impressions of the game on Xbox One.

Earlier this month, first-person servers for PUBG became available in all modes, while the game's most recent monthly update added Xbox controller support and more. For more on the game, check out crazy stats about kill count, weapon use, and more that IGN collected from PUBG developer Bluehole.
