While Steve Rogers was drastically outnumbered as the final battle began in this issue, his Cosmic Cube-powered armor more than evened the odds. Steve quickly triumphed over his foes and used his near-limitless power to remake reality, creating a new world where Hydra remained in power throughout the 20th Century.

However, Steve was ill-prepared for his reunion with Sam Wilson, who willingly handed over both his shield and the last remaining fragment of the Cosmic Cube. But rather than completing Steve's ascension, this act merely paved the way for Bucky to enter the Cosmic Cube and free both Kobik and the real Steve Rogers. The biggest revelation in this issue is that Hydra's Steve Rogers was apparently an impostor from the beginning. Madame Hydra's claim that Hydra originally helped the Axis to win World War II is also exposed as a lie.

With his Cosmic Cube power gone, the Hydra Supreme found himself equally matched with Captain America. That is, until Steve managed to lift Mjolnir and strike down his doppelganger in one blow.

With that, Hydra's reign came to an end. The series ended with Kobik restoring the Marvel Universe to normal (though leaving Las Vegas in ruins and Black Widow and Rick Jones dead as a reminder of the cost of this victory). This issue also reveals the connection between Secret Empire and Marvel's current Generations mini-series, as Kobik sends ten heroes on a temporary journey to the Vanishing Point that both rewards them for their bravery and tests them ahead of future challenges.

As Secret Empire closes, however, questions still remain about the true relationship between the Captain America Steve Rogers and the Hydra Supreme Steve Rogers. Is the former Steve truly the "real" version and Hydra Supreme the impostor created by Kobik, or are they both fragments of the real thing? And will Hydra Supreme continue to serve as an enemy to the Avengers? We expect these questions will be explored in the epilogue comic Secret Empire: Omega #1, due out on September 13.
