Marvel is capping off the month of August with one of its biggest releases of the year. Secret Empire #10 brings this massive crossover to a close as a turbo-charged Captain America takes on the combined might of the Avengers, X-Men, Inhumans and assorted Spider-persons. That might sound like a lopsided match-up, but with Cap's suit fueled by the power of an almost completed Cosmic Cube, he may still have the upper hand.
Naturally, the question is less whether Hydra will be overthrown than what will become of Captain America in the aftermath of this showdown. Can Steve Rogers be redeemed? Will the Marvel Universe forgive him for this ultimate act of betrayal? Those questions will probably linger over the character long after this series is done.

DC's month-long celebration of all things Jack Kirby comes to a close this week. But they may very well have saved the best for last. First, DC is paying homage to Kirby's most iconic DC villain, the mighty Darkseid himself. We've seen little of Darkseid in recent years (especially after his unexpected transformation in Justice League: The Darkseid War), so we're excited to have the chance to see a more classical take on the character courtesy of Kirby historian Mark Evanier and artist Scott Kolins.
The second Kirby Special out this week focuses on the other Mister Miracle, Shilo Norman, and the spirit of death known as the Black Racer. It's a natural pairing of New Gods favorites, as Shilo finds himself running from the Black Racer in his ultimate bid to escape death. We're eager to see writer Reginald Hudlin and artist Denys Cowan bring their unique flair to the Fourth World.

It's pretty rare for different incarnations of the Doctor to cross paths. Titan Comics is going several steps further by uniting all four modern Doctors into one massive crossover adventure. This Alpha issue kicks off the festivities, with the storyline then running through the pages of all four ongoing Doctor Who series for the next two months. If you need a Doctor Who fix, this is about as concentrated a dose as you're likely to find.

The Old Guard is easily among the best of Image's many new series in 2017. Equal parts black ops drama and Highlander-style fantasy about immortal soldiers, the series plays very well to the strengths of writer Greg Rucka and artist Leandro Fernandez. And with the first story arc now being collected in trade paperback form, there's no excuse not to dive into this brutal world.
