8 Things Mario + Rabbids Doesn't Tell You

The world of Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle can be surprisingly difficult behind its cute and whimsical exterior - and battles can become very tense and challenging as you progress through the game.

Below you will find tips that aren't always given to you right away in the game, and may just save your team in a pinch!

Once you've completed the first World, you'll gain access to the Rabbid Washing Machine in Peach's Castle. This allows you to revisit all the chapters and associated battles from a World you have cleared.

Not only can this be used to get a better trophy or score on a chapter you did poorly on, but completing a battle again will net you extra coins - albeit less than you did the first time around, but hey, 100 coins is nothing to sneeze at, especially when you can earn them just by doing the easiest chapters!

All of the Mario characters learn a technique that gives them an "Overwatch", meaning they can instantly fire upon an enemy moving when they move out of cover. Even though it only does limited damage and doesn't usually put a big enough dent in your foes - the most useful aspect comes from your weapons' special effect triggering.

If your special effect moves an enemy out of range, knocks them out of bounds, or blinds or stuns them, they'll be unable to do anything of use for the rest of their turn - which can be a big help in making sure you don't get flanked. The better chance of a special effect triggering, the more likely you may just stop the enemy from making a move.

When you first encounter the Smasher enemy, you'll learn that shooting it will cause it to angrily charge you up to four cells of range, and will attack if it reaches you in that distance. However, it gets worse.

Smashers will react to all damage taken, regardless of the source. This means that if a Smasher is hit by friendly fire - say, the area of effect damage from another Smasher's melee attack, it will react, and continue to attack you! It will also react to Hero Vision and similar attacks, regardless of whose turn it is. This means you can accidentally cause them to travel further by being hit by Hero Vision in addition to already being on the move.

The only times Smashers cannot react are when dealt damage via movement (which include dash attacks and jump attacks), and if they are knocked out of bounds. However, being knocked to a different platform and not falling out of bounds will still prompt them to move closer to the target.

Mario isn't just the star of the show like he always is - he's also your most important character for two big reasons.

The first main reason is that he is the defacto leader of your group - you can never swap him out for any other team member (Sorry, Rabbid Mario), and due to this, you need to be very careful with him in battle. If he takes a lot of damage in the first battle, he'll still be low on health for the rest of the battles in that chapter, whereas your other teammates can be swapped out. Be extra careful when positioning him, and favor healing him or leaving another hero as bait.

The second reason he's so important is that he's the only character that can increase the amount of health you get from finding Super Mushrooms between battles. Later in the game, 70 health might not cut it anymore, and you'll need that extra kick to keep things moving (Don't forget, you can dump points into the Mushroom skill and reset your points after getting the health back).

There's a lot to the movement side of battle, and smart players can cross an entire battlefield by making liberal use or dashing, team jumps, and warp pipes. However, once you go through a warp pipe, you cannot re-enter that warp pipe for the rest of that character's movement period. Similarly, you cannot dash or jump attack the same enemy more than once - so choose wisely.

You can get a lot of weapons by just playing through the different worlds and completing chapters - but some of the best weapons are the hidden ones. This is because weapons found in Treasure Chests, or those granted at the end of the Secret Chapter come with additional bonuses that offer better damage or chance of a special effect triggering on certain kinds of enemies.

This can range from enemy types or sizes to even boss characters, so be sure to leave no stone unturned.

As soon as you recruit Luigi to your cause, the Rabbids will complete the NFC Reader Building, allowing you to scan amiibo in the building outside of Peach's Castle. It's worth it to do this immediately, as scanning the Mario, Luigi, and Peach (and eventually Yoshi) amiibo will grant both mario character and rabbid counterpart a free weapon to use that also has bonus effects.

Not only do they not cost any coins, but they'll also be on par with the weapons you currently have, and will be on par with the weapons other heroes will have when you first obtain them. These weapons are set and do not improve over time, so the sooner you get these bonus weapons - the better.

Find enough weapons, and you'll start to notice a pattern with characters. Mario's Blasters deal either Bounce or Honey damage, whereas Rabbid Luigi's Rockets deal Push or Fire damage.

Knowing when to utilize these special effects are important, as is the knowledge that some heroes get effects that others do not. For example, only Luigi's and Yoshi's weapons  can deal Ink damage and blind enemies from attacking back, while Rabbid Luigi's Bworbs can have a wide range of different special effects not just limited to two different ones. Try and match special effects to tactics you want to employ - like scattering enemies with fire and then using honey when they away from cover.
