Pokemon Go Adds Raikou, Entei, and Suicune

Plus EX Raids will begin as early as next week.

Niantic and The Pokemon Company have announced that Legendary Pokemon Raikou, Entei, and Suicune are coming to Pokemon Go starting today.

Each of the three will appear in raid battles in one region at a time. From today until September 30, Raikou will appear in gyms in the Americas, Entei will appear in gyms in Europe and Africa, and Suicane will be in gyms in the Asia-Pacific region. On September 30, the Pokemon will swap locations for a month, and then swap one more time to their last remaining region on October 31, making the full set eventually available worldwide.

Niantic also announced that the recently-announced Exclusive Raids are now called EX Raids and will begin rolling out in some areas as soon as next week, on September 6. EX Raids will be invite-only and will appear at certain gyms for a limited time. Players will only receive an invite if they have previously beaten a Raid Battle at that particular gym. EX Raids will begin as tests only in certain regions before eventually rolling out worldwide.

Yesterday, Niantic also began rolling out a new update (0.73.1 for Android and 1.43.1 for iOS) that fixes a bug that prevented the final Premier Ball in a raid from catching a Pokemon. You can read full patch notes on Pokemon Go’s official site.

Today’s news follows the rollout of Legendary Pokemon that began at last month’s Pokemon Go Fest, beginning with Lugia and Articuno and eventually expanding to Moltres and Zapdos. Earlier this month, Mewtwo was catchable for players at the Pokemon Stadium event in Yokohama, Japan, and will begin to be available in EX Raids worldwide in the weeks to come.
