Apple Reportedly Revealing New iPhone in September

Will the iPhone 8 officially make its debut?

Apple will reportedly be holding a new product launch event on September 12, during which the company is expected to unveil the newest slate of iPhones.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the company, which has not publicly confirmed any plans, will hold the event to reportedly showcase a 10th anniversary iPhone and updated iPhone 7 models. According to WSJ, the celebratory anniversary iPhone will be the larger — and more expensive — version and will include an edge-to-edge display, facial recognition tech, and more.

Those reported features would line up with what appeared to be a leak by Apple of both face-scanning tech and a screen that covers nearly the entire front of the phone.

IGN has reached out to Apple for comment on the report and will update this story should they respond.

The report also states that a new Apple Watch model will be revealed, featuring an LTE cellular chip so that the watch can depend less on a tethered iPhone for emails, texts, and calls.

Apple will reportedly also move the event from the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium to the Steve Jobs Theater on Apple's new headquarters campus, though that reportedly depends on when construction of the campus finishes. According to WSJ, the company is also expanding production of the anniversary iPhone in anticipation of release later this year.

Earlier this year, Apple unveiled a Snapchat-like app called Clips, while a WWDC event earlier this year also included the debuts of HomePod, a new iPad Pro, and more.

As for the iPhone's competitors, Samsung's new Galaxy Note 8 will be released just a couple days after the reported Apple event.
