Only yesterday, Capcom was telling us, "we can’t confirm any specifics about the [Resident Evil 7] demo", but at least one mystery seems to have been temporarily solved for us.
In an email to fans who had joined the series' Ambassador Program (reported by Eurogamer), Capcom addressed the ongoing saga of the mannequin digit that's tortured the demo's community - and it seems like it's bad news for now:
"About a certain 'finger'..." the message reads, before displaying a picture of a dummy finger besides a note that says "The path is closed, but patience..." This seemingly implies that the finger is indeed useless in the current demo - but that hasn't stopped further speculation.
Social media users have been quick to point out that the message is sitting on top of a calendar for September - the month Tokyo Game Show takes place.
Coupled with the fact that the teaser - a vertical slice designed as a "tonal preview", but which will not be a part of the main game - is marked as "resident evil 7 Demo 1" on the Japanese PlayStation Store, some are now convinced a second part will be released at the Japanese expo.
The message also points out that the demo has now been downloaded over 2 million times since its release just over two weeks ago.
All of this is in service of Capcom's return to/rebirth of its seminal horror series - Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will be released on January 24, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One and PC, with full PSVR capabilities, and intends to bring us back to the franchise's roots, with a new first-person gameplay twist.
