Team17 and Mouldy Toof Studios have announced The Escapists 2, the sequel to 2015's indie prison break game.
It's coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017, and the big new addition is multiplayer. There will be drop-in/drop-out play both in split screen and online for up to four players, and there will be versus and co-op modes.
Another new addition is that of multi-level prisons, opening up new ways to escape - including being able to tie bed sheets together to form a makeshift rope. New items include a homemade taser, and combat has been completely changed with lock-on targeting, heavy and light attacks, and blocking.
The action still takes place from a top-down perspective, but there's a brand new art style, and there are new character customization options available, including the ability to play as a woman.
“The Escapists 2 takes everything the fans loved from the first game and adds in so many new additions and features on top. I can’t wait to see what the fans think," said Chris Davis, founder of Mouldy Toof.
IGN's review of the first game said the mix of "sandbox, puzzle and open-world action" offered something "fresh and entertaining." There's also a Walking Dead themed spin-off game where you play through memorable locations from the comics and show.
