Luke Cage's Mahershala Ali Joins Cast of Alita: Battle Angel

He's set to portray the villain Vector.

Luke Cage and House of Cards actor Mahershala Ali is in negotiations to play a villain once more in Alita: Battle Angel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ali would portray Vector, a man who rigs Motorball combat matches, in the film adaptation of the popular manga. Ali was most recently seen in Luke Cage playing the bad guy Cottonmouth.

Ali wouldn't be the first Marvel movie villain to join producer James Cameron's Alita: Battle Angel, by the way. Last month, Deadpool nemesis Ed Skrein was cast as the cyborg Zapan in the movie.

Alita: Battle Angel will star Maze Runner's Rosa Salazar in the title role, with Oscar-winner Christopher Waltz reportedly playing her mentor in the film.

Sin City filmmaker Robert Rodriguez is directing the manga-inspired movie.

Production is set to begin this month in Austin, Texas. Alita: Battle Angel is expected to hit the silver screen July 20, 2018.
