This was the Original Ending of Frozen

Elsa was an evil "self-proclaimed Snow Queen."

Disney's animated smash hit Frozen originally had a completely different ending.

Warning: Spoilers for Frozen ahead...

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Frozen's producer Peter Del Vecho revealed that Elsa was the villain when the movie was first being developed. Elsa acted like a "self-proclaimed Snow Queen" and was purely evil, with the story taking heavy inspirations from Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale. Further, Anna and Elsa weren't sisters.

"We started out with an evil female villain and an innocent female heroine, and the ending involved a big epic battle with snow monsters that Elsa had created as her army,” Vecho said.

In order to stop the attack, Prince Hans accidentally triggers a deadly avalanche, not caring that it'll destroy the kingdom of Arendelle. Anna ends up having to convince Elsa to stop avalanche, where it's revealed Hans is the true villain of the story.

However, director Chris Buck and the rest of the Frozen team weren't satisfied with the conclusion, feeling it wasn't original enough and that there was an issue with the way Elsa was depicted throughout the film.

“We had no emotional connection to Elsa — we didn’t care about her because she had spent the whole movie being the villain," Vecho said.

To avoid having the typical true love's kiss solve all of the problems, Buck came up with the idea of Elsa saving Anna from certain death instead.

It seems this change was the right decision.
