The Dark Tower Release Date Pushed Back Again

The wait gets longer.

Sony has pushed back the release date for its The Dark Tower film adaptation once again.

Entertainment Weekly reports the movie, which was originally slated to release on July 28, will now open in theaters a week later on August 4.

Sony's upcoming The Emoji Movie was reportedly the reason behind the delay, as the animated film has switched release dates with The Dark Tower. The studio wants to give The Emoji Movie “more summertime play” before school kicks off in August, which isn't a point of concern with The Dark Tower as it isn't as reliant on young viewers.

There has been barely any promotional material for The Dark Tower, but Stephen King did reveal a new poster for the film just a few weeks ago. Nikolaj Arcel is directing the movie, which stars Idris Elba as Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as Walter Padick.

The Dark Tower won't be a straight adaptation of King's beloved series of books. Instead, it'll serve as more a sequel to than a retelling of the author's original work.
