Fast and Furious Franchise Would Cause $523M in Damage

Living life a quarter-mile at a time would have its consequences.

The thing about a street fight is the street always wins — and leaves whoever started the fight with a massive bill of damages.

Insurance company InsuretheGap.com (as spotted by THR), has assessed all of the damage done throughout the first seven films in the Fast and Furious franchise, and determined that the real-life cost of every car crash, car explosion, and car crashes into buildings that then explode would cost over 419.4 million pounds, or about $523.3 million USD.

The W Motors Lykan Hypersport, seen flying through the air between three buildings in Abu Dhabi during Furious 7, is the mot expensive car destroyed in the entire series, with an estimated $3.46 million USD value. 169 cars sustain some form of damage throughout the series, while 142 are absolutely destroyed. (There's a good chance The Fate of the Furious will considerably up these numbers if the scenes teased in its latest trailer are any indication.)

Dominic Toretto, Brian O'Conner, and the rest of the fast family, meanwhile, have been party to 53 buildings damaged and 31 destroyed, while 37 special vehicles — which the company qualifies as custom cars, buses, trains, and other vehicles — are destroyed in all seven films.

In terms of total damage, Furious 7 is clearly the most expensive film in terms of damage, but the series itself saw a massive jump when the franchise kicked dramatically increased the scale of its major setpieces in Fast Five. It's also no surprise then that the seventh film's villain, Deckard Shaw, who appeared to always have a spare rocket launcher on him, caused the most damage of any single character in the entire franchise. (In terms of the franchise's heroes, Dom is the most reckless of the crew.)

Total Damage Costs of Each Fast and Furious Film

The major outlier in terms of damage cost is The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, which saw a general downturn in cosmetic car damage as Sean Boswell learned the art of drifting on the streets of Tokyo.

But expect those numbers to change quite a bit with The Fate of the Furious, the F. Gary Gray-directed eighth installment in the franchise, for which more about Helen Mirren's role in the film has recently been revealed. Starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Charlize Theron, and more, The Fate of the Furious hits theaters on April 14.
