Annapurna Pictures, the production house behind films like Her, Zero Dark Thirty, and Sausage Party, will begin publishing video games with its new Annapurna Interactive division. The first games published by the company will be What Remains of Edith Finch and Gorogoa next spring.
Annapurna Interactive will also publish games from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi and Monument Valley developer Ken Wong, whose next project is Mountains.
The new game publishing arm will be made up of numerous industry veterans, including those who have worked on God of War, Mortal Kombat, Journey, and more.
“The artistry and diversity of interactive storytelling is exciting and we look forward to exploring the limitless possibilities in gaming. We want to empower artists across this medium to make Annapurna Interactive their home and I believe we’ve assembled the perfect team to make that happen,” Annapurna founder and CEO Megan Ellison said in a statement accompanying the announcement.
What Remains of Edith Finch comes from The Unfinished Swan developer Giant Sparrow and was revealed in 2013. The collection of short stories about a cursed family is set to release on PS4.
Gorogoa is a puzzle game from Jason Roberts, which tells its story though panels that can be rearranged to create new meaning in neighboring tiles. Gorogoa has been slated for release on PC and mobile devices.
