Our Nominees For the Best PlayStation Vita Game of 2016

Here are IGN's nominees for Best PS Vita Game of 2016. We'll announce our winner in January, but our opinion isn't the only one that matters — cast your vote in the poll at the bottom of the page to help decide the IGN People's Choice winner!

From IGN's Review: "Darkest Dungeon is a grim and merciless tactical strategy game whose great tension comes from its many layers of complexity, unpredictable randomization, and willingness to put our fragile characters in mortal danger if we dare to venture into its depths in search of treasure and glory. Brilliant narration and stiff yet surprisingly expressive animation make it easy to be drawn into its vague but tantalizing world, though the end feels artificially out of reach."

From IGN's Review: "Dragon Quest Builders is totally, thoroughly engaging. Its gameplay is accessible to kids while its dialogue offers enough sly references to keep Dad or Mom amused. Collecting, crafting, and building all sounds familiar, but this package encapsulates so much of the best parts of this creative process and wraps it in light roleplaying progression and storytelling. It doesn’t matter that there isn’t a multiplayer component, because it wouldn’t have contributed to the world. So that means this is a gold-standard RPG for the non-connected gamer to flex all their cerebral muscles wherever they want it to go."

From IGN's Review: "Severed is at its best when it features short, tactical fights in its eerily beautiful dungeons"

EditShiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate

Shiren the Wanderer's Vita outing is a smartly-crafted, aesthetically-pleasing, and accessible take on the classical roguelike. Every time you die you're sent back to the beginning of your quest, but each failure teaches valuable lessons you'll apply to your next attempt. Experiencing your growing strategic skills carrying you further down the path to victory is a delightful deviation from the usual RPG grind.

From IGN's Review: "Steamworld Heist stole my heart. The characters are charming, the combat is addictive, and the Firefly-style adventure made every battle a blast. Besides some annoying instances of post-battle maintenance, I rarely felt the need to power down these robots."

From IGN's Review: "World of Final Fantasy is a warm and fuzzy blend of nostalgic turn-based combat and monster stacking that had me squealing with delight."

Don’t let this one’s cute, chibi player character get your guard down — for a handheld game, Yomawari: Night Alone knows how to deliver the scares. But even when there’s nothing immediately threatening on-screen, Yomawari’s ability to turn even the most pleasant suburban neighborhood into an eerie nightmare world are enough to keep you on edge.

From IGN's Review: "My time with Zero Time Dilemma was one of great pleasure and anguish, mainly because I knew I was saying goodbye to one of my favorite series. This final chapter brings the beloved Zero Escape trilogy to a gratifying end, featuring beautiful character moments, elaborate puzzles, and a mind-bending plot. Not many games will keep me glued to the screen like Zero Time Dilemma did, and despite its minor graphical flaws, it will remain a gem in the 3DS library."
