IGN's Nominees for the Best Action Movie of 2016

Here are IGN's nominees for Best Action Movie of 2016. We'll announce our winner in January, but our opinion isn't the only one that matters - cast your vote in the poll below to help decide the IGN People's Choice winner!

Read IGN's Review: Not only is this the film that disassembled the Avengers, Captain America: Civil War also marks the MCU debuts of both Spider-Man and Black Panther. Boasting one of the great superhero movie action sequences in its airport battle set-piece, Civil War also excels as a very moving film about conflicted loyalties and the vain pursuit of revenge.

From IGN's Review: Deadpool doesn’t hold back is its gory, well-crafted action. The choreography is stylish throughout, with Deadpool switching elegantly between pistols and katanas, severing heads before round-housing them across the screen. He breaks bones and, simultaneously, the fourth-wall, providing amusing commentary on what’s going down, like exactly how many bullets he has left or whether he’s left the stove on. These are refined sequences full of creative violence and wit.

From IGN's Review: While Doctor Strange’s basic origin story structure is a bit overly familiar, including a lot of the strengths and weaknesses we’ve come to expect frm Marvel Studios’ movies, its greatest accomplishment is that it successfully expands the scope of the MCU. The inclusion of the kind of magic and powers on the level seen here are unlike anything introduced into this universe so far and the idea of seeing Strange interact with the other Marvel heroes moving forward is very exciting.

From IGN's Review: Two parts FPS, one part platformer and a pinch of HowToBasic, director Ilya Naishuller's Hardcore Henry is a recipe for non-stop, ludicrous fun. While the film's actual story is nigh nonexistent, it's sure to please gamers and action junkies alike with its inventive set pieces and mind-boggling action.

From IGN's Review: Rogue One brings much more of a true war movie vibe to Star Wars. There is a powerful “in the trenches” feel to much of the film, as we watch the core characters and their Rebel allies battle in the streets, in the forest and, memorably, in the tropical environment of Scarif. The visual language (not to mention specific props and sets) of Star Wars has been lovingly recreated, yet Rogue One still is able to have its own vibe.

From IGN's Review: Star Trek Beyond is the rare Trek film that appeals to both mainstream crowds and Roddenberry devotees. The film excels in not just the inventive visuals and action -- which are guided by the sure hand of franchise newcomer (and Fast and the Furious vet) Justin Lin -- but also in terms of character, humor and emotional impact.
