The recommended play space measures approximately 10 feet by 10 feet total, with the user in VR sitting about 5 feet in front of the PlayStation Camera / TV.
Clear an area larger than the Play Area of all obstacles before using PS VR, and make sure that no walls, furniture, or objects can impede your VR play space.
Yes, you can in most cases. PSVR is designed to accommodate glasses, and if you wear glasses to play other video games you'll likely need them here too.
Be careful when placing the headset over your lenses. Be sure the halo of the PSVR is properly extended and that the front of the PSVR fits loosely over your corrective lenses. For more information on wearing eyeglasses with PlayStation VR, check out our guide.
To recenter your PSVR display within your field of view, press and HOLD the Options button.
Note that there have been reports of issues where the in-game screen is slanted to the left and can't be recentered without a restart (see "How Do I Fix Screen Drifting" 'below).
If your PlayStation VR isn't seeing your DualShock controller, check your controller's USB cable. The USB cable can block your PlayStation VR controller's light bar.
Disconnect your USB cable from the controller and make sure the light bar is unobscured. This includes any stickers or decals you may have applied to help dim the DualShock 4's light bar.
You must plug your compatible earpieces directly into the inline remote section of the PSVR headset. 3D sound for VR cannot be generated through other means. For more information about 3D audio, check out our guide.
The PlayStation VR Menu is a menu of special options for controlling your PlayStation VR headset. The menu is accessible through the Settings menu on PS VR, then by navigating to Devices, and then to PlayStation VR. This menu allows you to adjust brightness, eye-to-eye distance, and more.
Also under this menu are options for calibrating the PlayStation VR. If you're having trouble with PlayStation VR "drifting" or with light source or camera calibration, you may want to run this calibration and setup. Check out our guide on how to calibrate PlayStation VR.
EditHow Do i clean and maintain PSVR?
Since PlayStation VR is strapped to your face, it is important to regularly clean the unit, especially when switching users. Using non-alcoholic, antibacterial wipes is a quick way to clean PSVR. For more in-depth cleaning and maintaining tips, check out our guide.
Did you remember to power up the PlayStation VR headset with the power button on the Inline Remote?
This independent power switch must be activated to start PSVR.
The PSVR Social Screen is a secondary game display projected on your television. It reflects a portion of the action being experienced by the player, and is intended to allow social interaction with nearby viewers. For more information on the Social Screen, check out our guide.
You don't need an external microphone with PSVR. The VR headset includes an integrated mic. You can also mute and unmute this mic with the Inline Remote.
If your PlayStation VR camera tracking is acting erratically, check the area nearby for mirrored surfaces. Mirrors can confuse the PlayStation Camera.
Some users report that sunlight or bright in-room lights can interfere with the performance of PSVR. Dim lights and close shades to maximize performance in these instances.
You can check up on the centering of your PlayStation Camera in Settings, then Devices, then PlayStation Camera, then Adjust PlayStation Camera.
The PlayStation VR can become confused by light sources and impediments that block the PlayStation VR's line of sight.
To check the effectiveness of your light sources, navigate to Settings, then Devices, then Adjust Tracking Light. Check your light sources and make sure no reflections, shadows, or lights are interfering with PSVR, and make sure your headset's lights and controller lights aren't blocked by cables or dirt.
For more detail, check out our guide on how to calibrate PlayStation VR.
A number of users on forums and incomments are reporting that the in-game screen drifts to the left after a few minutes of play. This does not occur with all headsets in all setups and the cause is currently unknown, but we were able to verify the same issue at IGN with a retail unit. Even though the cinematic and menu screens outside the games can be reoriented by pressing and holding the Options key, this does not work properly within the games. It is currently unknown if this is a software or hardware issue. The only known fix so far is to restart the VR headset. Note that this fix is temporary as the issue will occur again.
If you look into your VR headset goggles and see a white icon indicating "USB" then check the USB connection between your Processor Unit and the PS4. This error indicates a fault in that connection.
Your PSVR comes with a cleaning cloth for use on the internal lenses, but you may also want to use it on the PlayStation Camera lens. Dirty lenses may adversely effect camera detection.
For more cleaning tips, check out our guide for cleaning and maintaining PlayStation VR.
