A Roseanne Revival With the Original Cast is in the Works

The Connor family is back!

Roseanne is primed to follow in the footsteps of One Day at a Time and Fuller House with a revival of its own.

According to Deadline, the classic sitcom is coming back in limited-series form, and it seems that all the key figures are returning as well.

As it currently stands, the Roseanne revival will last for eight episodes, at least initially. Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, and Sara Gilbert are all reportedly already signed on, and Laurie Metcalf and other actors from the original run are in the process of working out deals as well.

Multiple networks are currently bidding on the show. Naturally, Netflix has thrown its hat in the ring, but ABC, who aired the original Roseanne, is also hoping to bring the show back home.

Roseanne originally aired from 1988 until 1997, and was an important sitcom in television history. It succeeded at being a more realistic portrayal of a blue collar family. In addition to often struggling financially, Barr and Goodman did not look like your traditional glamorous television stars. Many consider it to be one of the best sitcoms of all-time, although some were critical of the show's final season.

Speaking of that final season, and not wanting to spoil anything, it certainly raises questions for just how this revival will play out. Nevertheless, this is certainly an interesting development. Here's hoping it's better than Fuller House.

Chris Morgan is the author of The Comic Galaxy of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and the new novel The Ash Heap of History. Wisely or not, he's also on Twitter.
