Nintendo Store Officially Stops Selling NES Classic Edition

Could Nintendo be preparing to release an SNES Classic Edition later this year?

Nintendo has announced it will no longer be selling the NES Classic Edition at the official Nintendo store in New York City, stating:

"As of 4/27/17 the NES Classic Edition system will no longer be available for purchase at #NintendoNYC."

We previously reported the console would be ceasing production, with the last shipments being sent out this month.

In the wake of the company's decision to discontinue the console, a Nintendo representative told IGN that the NES Classic Edition was not intended to be a long-term product.

Nintendo has given no further reason for halting the console's production, though many have speculated that the company is preparing to release an SNES Classic Edition sometime later this year.

The mini console was incredibly popular during its short lifespan, selling out at many major retailers within minutes. For more on why the console was such a sought after item, be sure to check out our NES Classic Edition review.
