Battlefield 1 Spring Update Adds Platoons, Weapons, More

Four new weapon variants now available.

The Spring Update for Battlefield 1 is now live, bringing with it Platoons, server administration features, and four new weapon variants, among a host of bug fixes and balance adjustments.

Any player can now create and manage their very own Platoon, which hosts a maximum of 100 players and may be set to open access, apply-to-join, or closed. Platoons, first introduced in Battlefield 3, are meant to bring a stronger and more organized sense of community to Battlefield, and can make it especially easy to find when and where your teammates are playing.

According to DICE, the Spring Update only introduces "the most essential Platoons features," which it can continue building on in the future.

Server administration features have also been expanded based on player feedback. Server admins can now grant other players admin rights, password protect servers, and set servers to require lower numbers before pre-round ends.

A major gameplay feature added in the Spring Update is the ability for Medics to "spot" dead players they intend to revive. The fallen player will see an "incoming medic" notification and can wait for service, or skip if desired. The feature is meant to lower the chance of Medics attempting to reach fallen teammates only for them to skip to respawn once the Medic reaches them.

Four new weapon variants made it into the update, unlockable by completing special weapon assignments: the Hellriegel 1915 Defensive, which includes a lens sight, bipod, and extended magazine; the Selbstlader 1906 Sniper; The Huot Automatic Optical, which adds a lens sight and foregrip; and the Martini Henry Sniper, which comes with a telescopic sight and a bipod.

The update also adds the ribbon system from previous Battlefield games and five new dog tags.
