The solo Aquaman film in the DC extended universe will be released in theaters on October 5, 2018, Warner Bros. revealed today.
Originally set for a July 2018 release, Deadline reports that Aquaman will debut in theaters a few months later, with Jason Momoa returning in the title role after his cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice this year and his role in Justice League next year.
Furious 7 and The Conjuring director James Wan is helming the project, with Willem Defoe set to play Vulko in both Aquaman and Justice League. IGN spoke to Wan earlier this year about the tone of the film in comparison to Batman v Superman.
Amber Heard, who will also appear in Justice League, will return in the film as Mera. IGN previously exclusively revealed the first look at Mera in the upcoming Zack Snyder-directed team-up film. Wan has previously said Aquaman will be in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Previous reports have suggested that the film's villain will be Black Manta.
The next DC film to release in theaters will be Wonder Woman, which debuts on June 2, 2017.
