After narrowing down their search to just a few actresses for the lead role in Alita: Battle Angel, it appears producer James Cameron and director Robert Rodriguez have settled on Maze Runner's Rosa Salazar.
Sources have told Collider that Salazar has been selected to play the film's leading lady, edging out Bella Thorne, Zendaya and Maika Monroe.
In addition to starring in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Salazar also appeared in The Divergent Series: Insurgent and the FX comedy Man Seeking Woman.
Cameron's live-action adaptation of the Battle Angel Alita manga will tell the story of a female cyborg who becomes a criminal-tracking bounty hunter after a scientist discovers her remains in a trash heap.
Filming will reportedly begin sometime next year.
