Daniel Craig is reportedly joining the cast of director Steven Soderbergh's heist film Logan Lucky, a move that has some industry insiders further betting that his run as James Bond has come to an end.
With Logan Lucky -- which also stars Channing Tatum, Seth McFarlane, Adam Driver, and Katherine Heigl -- and his forthcoming Showtime TV series Purity, Craig's schedule is filling up fast. The actor infamously jested while promoting his latest Bond film, SPECTRE, that he'd rather slit his wrists than return for James Bond 25.
Perhaps the Bond filmmakers are taking him at his word as Deadline says it's confirmed Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has met with Fantastic Four and Tintin actor Jamie Bell about the role of Bond, James Bond. Broccoli is producing Bell's current movie, Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool.
Deadline also says there's been little movement on the Bond franchise front since Sony's deal to distribute the Bond films expired at the end of 2015: "There have been no negotiations on where the Bond movie will land (Sony or Warner Bros. are out front on this) and although it was thought that negotiations might start after the first quarter 2016, parties are not likely to engage in negotiations until later this year. There is no workable script yet and the creative elements have yet to come into place."
Craig reportedly turned down a whopping sum to reprise Bond for a fifth time, while X-Files star Gillian Anderson has expressed interest in being the first female Bond.
English-born Bell, 30, currently stars in AMC's series Turn: Washington's Spies, and his movie credits also include Billy Elliott, King Kong, Nymphomaniac, Snowpiercer, Jumper, and Defiance ... as Daniel Craig's brother!
