Brace yourselves: E3 2016 is nearly upon us. From June 12-16, the entire gaming industry will converge on Los Angeles to showcase the biggest games that we’ll be playing for 2016 and beyond. We’ve been updating our Games of E3 List whenever news drops, but now we’re going to go even deeper. Every day leading up to the show, we’re going to highlight one of the biggest games that we hope to see more of at E3. Up today: Mafia 3!
We got an extensive hands on with Mafia 3 in April, with IGN's Ryan McCaffrey sampling several of its combat and driving segments.
The big question with Mafia 3 is whether its New Orleans-inspired open world can deliver a deep, compelling experience. The Dixie-mafia, post-Vietnam southern crime story sounds like a magnificent, pulpy setup, but making that setting pulse with a living, breathing city will be a difficult prospect. We’d like to see just how much the rough late-60s streets of New Bordeaux have to offer the enterprising explorer.
We also need a longer look at the mission structure. Is Mafia first and foremost a corridor/cover shooter, or do the stealth mechanics play out as a solid option in every mission? How’s the feel of the driving and vehicular combat? And does that interesting setting lead to a truly intriguing story?
Mafia 3 is confirmed for E3! 10/10.
